Ovako produces long special steel products, with focus on demanding product segments. About 2 million tones of low alloy and carbon steels is supplied in the form of bars, wire rod, tubes and rings every year to rolling bearing, heavy vehicle, automotive and engineering industries mainly in Nordic countries and Europe.
Overview:
Ovako Tube and Ring division produce seamless tubes. The tubes are used in advanced applications such as bearing, automotive parts and advanced hydraulics solutions. Tubes are produced from heated round bars trough piercing and assel rolling. In order to get the correct dimensions it´s important with an exact temperature control.
Solution:
The existing FOCS-system was revamped.
Benefit:
The system gave the accurate temperature control necessary to manufacture also the wider pipes. At the same time an extra ordinary fuel saving of more than 10 % was achieved.
