Prevas helps future IT colleagues
Prevas is involved in the Hi5 project aimed at improving industry related postgraduate studies at Mälardalen University (MdH) and increasing interest in engineering education. Prevas is able to contribute both experience and specialist expertise. In return, Prevas can make early contact with future IT colleagues and find out about the latest discoveries that are taking place in research. With more than 15,000 students, Mälardalen University is one of the largest universities in Sweden. It offers approximately 60 different programs and has around 800 different courses. The Hi5 project was initiated by the Department of Computer Science and Electronics at MdH. MdH was granted SEK 10 million by Vinnova (the Swedish Government Agency for Innovation Systems) in order to run the project. The aim of the project is to form various ties that will bring industry and academia closer, as well as encouraging more students to choose engineering. Many large Swedish companies are involved in the project, including ABB, Ericsson, Prevas and Volvo Construction Equipment. Prevas acts as a mentor for students, doctoral candidates and researchers. In addition, Prevas offers students opportunities for completing their thesis work and lectures on project methodology. Prevas uses this methodology in its project deliveries and currently lectures on this subject at both KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology) and Uppsala University. Among other things, Prevas will provide students with the opportunity of analyzing project deliveries in order to come up with new ideas and suggestions that can improve future deliveries. The mentor program is intended to help students apply theory to practice, thereby boosting their motivation to study. Prevas is also quite eager to contribute by promoting female role models who work with system development and project management within the IT sector. "We have an opportunity to become acquainted early on with talented students. In addition, we can exchange experience — Prevas can present academia with real-life problems and MdH provides Prevas with information about the latest discoveries that are taking place in research," says Christer Ramebäck, Business Unit Manager at Prevas. "The project will help us to better adapt postgraduate studies to the needs of industry. The area of industrial IT is gaining in importance and I'm pleased that Prevas is willing to contribute to this project with its specialist expertise and experience in this area," says Ivica Crnkovic, professor at MdH. Industrial firms face extremely tough global competition in today's world. A long-term, structured way of working with continual improvements in productivity and quality is a must. For many years, Prevas has cooperated with industry to implement investments within the area of industrial IT, aimed at utilizing potential to achieve increased levels of productivity and quality. For additional information, contact
