Lower Energy Costs

Rising fuel prices results in significant costs for heating up substances prior to rolling. Flexible control, where it is possible to take planned production stops into consideration, would reduce fuel consumption by at least 5 percent.

Assignment: FOCS system for lower energy costs. MES.

Outokumpu installed, with the help of Prevas, a new FOCS system. This led to reduced costs, less environmental impact, better temperature control. The new system makes it possible to use a modern display system that is easy to use for everyone, both operators and process engineers.

Strategic partnership
In order to secure, streamline and optimize the production in Avesta, Outokumpu has together with Prevas, defined a number of common goals for the partnership. Among other things, the parties will work together to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in furnace operations in Outokumpu’s operations.

“We´ve chosen to sign an agreement with Prevas because we´re looking for a long-term collaboration in order to work on improvements within furnace operations. It´s important for both parties. I believe that it´s possible if you have a partner that, together with you, is very familiar with the plant. In order to be able to achieve lasting improvements, there´s a need for long-sightedness, something we´re convinced we´ll have together with Prevas," says Claes Nilsson Sörebo, General Manager at Outokumpu.
